Individual health coverage is designed for individuals who are under 65 years of age. Based on our current law, insurance companies cannot charge more or deny you coverage to you or your family because of a pre-existing health condition like diabetes, or cancer. They cannot limit benefits for that condition either. Once you have coverage, they cannot refuse to cover treatment for your pre-existing condition. Under the current law, you also have additional financial protection called Out-of-Pocket Maximum/limit, this limits the amount of money you can spend on healthcare cost each year. The Out-of-Pocket Limit doesn't include your monthly premiums, anything you spend for services your health plan does not cover, out-of-network care and services, and costs above the allowed amount for a service that a provider may charge.
